Drama: Last Night (2010)

movie review rating meter

This film focuses on the subject of infidelity, as well as questioning your choice on the person you decided to spend the rest of your life with, and whether you experience any regrets or thoughts of ‘what if’. Knightley’s acting surprisingly impresses us with a very real and honest performance of a married woman who deeply yearns for someone else but hides it so well, for so long, below the surface.

The plot throughout the film cuts between the two characters, showing Joanna’s night and Michael’s night in a cleverly artistic way, emphasising all the intimate details, leading you into a false sense of knowing what’s going to happen, until the unexpected happens.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 5.3/10

Drama: Last Night (2010)
Starring: Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes
Director: Massy Tadjedin

Synopsis

A couple’s marriage is tested during one night when they are apart. Both are faced with temptation and then left to question and reflect on their marriage. After Joanna (Keira Knightley) attends a dinner party with her husband Michael (Sam Worthington), where she meets his new attractive work colleague Laura (Eva Mendes), she instantly becomes suspicious of their relationship after noticing their obvious attraction to one another. After questioning Michael about him having an affair with her, Joanna seems to believe his response that nothing is going on. Then everything unravels into a series of twists and turns all taking place on one night when Michael is on a business trip with Laura, and Joanna has run into a secret old flame of hers, Alex (Guillaume Canet), and meets him for drinks. This leads to a very late night for both of them where they each have to confront their moral boundaries and make choices they never thought they would have to make.
