Sci-fi Thriller: Source Code (2011)

movie review rating meter

This movie thrills and fully captivates its viewers, without boring them with any drawn out or overcomplicated details. There is a strong human factor in the film, which allows us to connect and identify with the characters, therefore stirring our emotions. Although, mostly coming from a sci-fi angle, the film remains down to earth and has a few bouts of humour, with the inclusion of comedian Russell Peters to the cast, who plays a well-known comedian onboard the train.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 7.5/10

Sci-fi Thriller: Source Code (2011)
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan
Director: Duncan Jones

Synopsis

When soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up on a train to find he is in someone else’s body and not on a helicopter in Afghanistan which he had just crashed in, he learns he is part of a secret government programme called ‘Source Code’ which puts someone in another person’s consciousness during the last 8 minutes of their life. He is being used to find the bomber who caused an explosion on that train earlier that morning, and has exactly 8 minutes from the time he wakes up on the train to find him. He has a series of failed attempts but keeps getting sent back to those last 8 minutes before the explosion and finds more clues. He wants to try to stop the explosion from happening and save the passengers, Christina (Michelle Monaghan) in particular, but he is told that he can’t because he is not going back in time, but rather he is being placed in that moment through the consciousness belonging to one of the victims, so that he can find out who the bomber is and prevent any further attacks from happening.
