Imagine you could simply swallow a pill, suddenly reach your full potential and live a life where everything is limitless. The film is adapted from a novel called The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn, and has Eddie the protagonist (Cooper) sharing all his thoughts with the viewer through articulate narration. The film depicts the world through Eddie’s drug enhanced mind very cleverly. For fans of fast-paced, adrenaline pumped action and fight scenes, this movie is ideal with moments that will have you clinging on for dear life.

Romcom: Just Go With It (2011)

When it’s a Adam Sandler film you know what to expect: over the top farce, cast roles for Sandler’s buddies, some heart felt moments and always a happy ending. Just Go With It is no different. Some jokes are offensive, domestic workers take a bit of a beating, but they are easily forgiven, it’s Sandler, what else is to be expected.

Western adventure: True Grit (2010)

This is a brilliant remake of Henry Hathaway’s 1969 original western film starring John Wayne based on Charles Portis’s novel, with Bridges playing a convincing mumbling drunk, who somehow can automatically spring into action, with a surprisingly, hidden soft side. But it was new-comer actress Steinfeld, and her powerful performance of the film’s protagonist, Mattie, who steers the film into the action packed western adventure film that it is.

Action Fantasy: Sucker Punch (2011)

This is a dominatrix, gamerboy fantasy gone wrong. Video games to my spectator’s recollection, watching a boyfriend or two at play, usually have very good storylines. There is something our protagonist wants, in this case Babydoll wants to escape confinement. There is someone who withholds it from her, here her captor Blue, and through a series of obstacle courses and challenges she edges closer to her goal in escaping. So where does Sucker Punch go wrong?

Comic Book Remake: X-Men First Class (2011)

For all you comic-book remake aficionados, this is a must see! A prequel to the X-men series, this film pieces together why this band of super-powered mutants are as much society’s crutch as something they fear and want rid off. It reminds you of boyish fancies of wanting to be a super hero packed with action and adventure.

Drama: Last Night (2010)

This film focuses on the subject of infidelity, as well as questioning your choice on the person you decided to spend the rest of your life with, and whether you experience any regrets or thoughts of ‘what if’. Knightley’s acting surprisingly impresses us with a very real and honest performance of a married woman who deeply yearns for someone else but hides it so well, for so long, below the surface.

Sci-fi Thriller: Source Code (2011)

This movie thrills and fully captivates its viewers, without boring them with any drawn out or overcomplicated details. There is a strong human factor in the film, which allows us to connect and identify with the characters, therefore stirring our emotions. Although, mostly coming from a sci-fi angle, the film remains down to earth and has a few bouts of humour, with the inclusion of comedian Russell Peters to the cast, who plays a well-known comedian onboard the train.
