SMAC partners with Lambano Sanctuary

SMAC has joined hands with Lambano Sanctuary to provide support for abandoned or orphaned children.

Lambano Sanctuary was established in 2001 in response to the HIV crisis affecting children. The Sanctuary takes in HIV/AIDS infected children who have been left destitute; and currently house 30 permanent children from ages 3 to 15 years, in four homes.

In answer to the lack of facilities to look after ill HIV children, Lambano opened a 12 bed Hospice/Step Down facility and have admitted over 64 patients to date.

The Hospice admits children from birth to 16 years old and provides four main functions:-

  • Palliative and end of life care
  • Care of patients whose disease is too complex to be handled at home but not severe enough for hospital admission
  • Treatment of newly diagnosed HIV and/or TB patients and monitoring for any side effects from drugs
  • Nutritional and medical rehabilitation

SMAC donate funds on an adhoc basis to answer the specific needs of the sanctuary at any given time. Furthermore, staff members of SMAC will be taking part in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge taking place on Sunday 20 November 2011. Each rider will be gathering sponsorship per km they complete and all monies raised will be handed over to Lambano on 24 November 2011.

Lambano Sanctuary’s mission is to create a caring Christian environment whereby children will be nurtured and cared for physically, emotionally and spiritually with unconditional love. As Lambano Sanctuary has grown so has the request for further care such as burn treatment, brain injury assistance, cardiac care, renal treatment, cancer and endocrinology rehabilitation which has increased the need for help. To date the primary income for the sanctuary has been generous donations from corporations and individuals but to run and manage a home like this, there is always a long list of needs from basic items such as milk, nappies, sugar and bread to financial assistance for the care givers.

“We are delighted to be supporting such a wonderful sanctuary and we hope to raise awareness to a wider audience,” says Leejay Carrozzo, Managing Member SMAC “We believe this partnership will mark the beginning of a flourishing relationship that will efit the children and community in years to come."
