BMW GS Bikers ride for a greener Free State

From the 6-9th October, owners of BMW GS bikes across South Africa will join together to experience the annual celebration of their unique off-road/road motorcycles. This year GS owners will experience an adventure unlike previous years. The selected destination lies in the heart of the Eastern Free State – Clocolan.

Coupled with this new experience and whilst the bikers enjoy the beauty of the natural environment, situated within the backdrop of the magnificent Maluti region, GS owners will also be contributing towards the sustainability of the eco system. BMW is anticipating a committed turnout of 600 riders for this challenge.

And for every participating motorcycle, BMW Motorrad will donate one tree to Food and Trees for Africa's programme, ‘Trees for Homes’; South Africa’s national greening and food gardening enterprise.

Each of the trees donated by BMW will be planted in the Clocolan area. A commemorative tree will also be planted at the BMW Motorrad Head Office Midrand – in addition to the 400 trees that were recently placed by BMW – thus totalling 1 000 new trees being planted.

BMW Motorrad’s General Manager, Rob Holder, “Each year we endeavour to ensure the GS riders experience an event that is one of a kind. This year, the landscape captures the very essence of the GS experience – the perfect terrain GS motorcycles relish in.”

Mr Holder goes on to say, “We at BMW take sustainability very seriously and this thread is woven into the core of everything we do. From the manufacturing of our cars, to the production of our motorcycles as well as our CSR programmes and our every day environment. So, the partnership between BMW and Food and Trees for Africa is regarded as the perfect fit – we are able to provide an extraordinary experience to our customers, whilst at the same time being able to give back to the environment.”

A certificate for the 600 trees being planted will be handed to Trees for Africa, as well as the first tree will be planted on Friday 30th September in Clocolan to kick off the project.
