Making her your own

What’s classified as being “officially in a relationship”? How does it start? Does the guy have to ask the girl what’s happening between them? Does the girl let the guy know she’s ready for a relationship? How much emphasis should be put on this type of thing?

First off, I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – I’m not a date doctor and I cannot help you get laid. I write purely from the experiences and lessons learned from myself, friends and CityLifer readers. Good, that’s out the way. Now onto the babble, as we were.

Let’s use a hypothetical situation to kick off with. You meet a girl, go out on several good dates and after patiently waiting like a gentleman, you finally seal a good night kiss. Fireworks. What now? It’s clear that you both like each other (the fireworks kiss – I should totally copyright that phrase) and now it’s playing out like a waiting game. Do nothing at this point. Show her that you’d like to make her your girlfriend in actions, rather than words. Let her do the talking. Assess (during the course of you dating her) whether she’s ready for a relationship. Find out if she’s seriously dating anybody else. If all of these factors are in the positive, then carry on doing what you’ve been doing – continue to take her out, make her laugh and feel comfortable around you.

Soon the girl in our hypothetical story will start wondering about it more than you, and when she’s ready to take your friendship to the next level, you’ll see the green light. Do not worry about it, place any emphasis on it or even ask her to be your girlfriend. These are what needy guys do, and you’ll send her running like a fool on payday. Get close to her without being clingy.
