WhatSUPzanzi: All that you can't leave behind in SA

In 3 weeks’ time we will be on day 2 of paddling. Day 2 is expected to be one of our toughest days on the trip…a whopping 42km of paddling, in 30degree heat and 80% humidity! We expect this to be a 12 hour day, dodging ferries, boats and crazy ships...

as we make our way around Stone Town to Fumba.

The expedition is unsupported and as you know by now we will be carrying everything on board. But what is everything exactly? Here is a list of what we will be taking on board (please shout if you see anything missing) and that we can’t afford to forget at home:) :

Clothing: 1pair Vibram Fivefingers; 1 pair flip flops, 1 pair of socks; 1 long-sleeve wicking shirt, 2 paddling shirts, 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of long trousers (mosquitos),pair of Von Zipper Boardies, pair of gloves, cap, hat, buff, Von Zipper sunglasses, goggles, snorkel.

Hydration: 1 x 3L Camelback; 2 x600ml bottles in waist strap, 2 spare 750ml bottles of water.

Gear: Ark waterproof 60l bag. Ark waterproof 30l bag, spare Cabrinha paddle, spare skeg / fin, cable ties, duct tape, waterproof tape, patch kit, life jacket, zip locks, compass, map,

Electronics: GPS, laptop, cameras, chargers, batteries, LED Lenser lights, etc

Medication: Sunscreen, general medication

Nutrition: Tons of GU gels, electrolyte replacement and recovery drinks; 20 x 50g Instant Oats, 1 bag of Tuna per day. Will also get bread and bananas every morning.

We will do our first full gear check later in the week and this will probably weigh in at around 10kg in the ARK bags and then another 5kg (3l of water and extra nutrition) in our back-packs! We have trained with 9kg bags in the past and 3l on our backs, so hopefully our bags come in at the estimated weight!!
